"Kate Lamont's energy and flair drive her three family restaurants - located at East Perth, Margaret River and Swan Valley - and her name is the public's ironclad guarantee of quality produce, consistently well cooked. On weekends, the alfresco area in the bushland, gardens and verandahs around the winery's Swan Valley cellar door plays host to a unique restaurant. Couples and small groups graze off small plates (called tapas for want of a better word) - Lamont points out that three plates are the equivalent of a main course. Standout dishes include chilli con carne with garlic yoghurt sauce, succulent breadcrumb and parmesan coated chicken, Lamont's signature marron with cumin salt, and salt and pepper squid. It's absolutely delicious, modern comfort food. Lamont's wines have been at the top of Swan Valley production for many years. The taut, pure-fruited 2006 Verdelho will run out in October, while the opulent, deeply flavoured 2003 Shiraz will be around for a bit longer.
